Forum: GratefulDead Subject: What are the best covers of Dead songs on the archive?

There was a post a while back about the Dead doing covers of Dylan (and others). This got me to thinking....what are the best covers of dead songs on the archive (i.e. other bands doing songs written by the Dead)? In this case I would want to exclude Phil and Friends or bands who are in the business of doing Dead songs. The cover should take a song by the Dead and put it into a different style. If possible, could you give me a link to a particular show (rather than artist). Here are my 3 "favorites" so far:

1. Camper van Beethoven doing LOSER. (http://www.archive.org/details/cvb1989-09-14.flac16)
2. G Love doing FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN. http://www.archive.org/details/glove2001-04-30
3. Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad doing a reggae version of EASY WIND. http://www.archive.org/details/gpgds2006-11-11.sbd.flac16 ..didn't think a reggae version was possible but...

here's a few I've enjoyed:

Earth Bombs Mars - Cream Puff War

Laughing Water - Bertha, The Other One, Eyes Of The World, etc. I guess this band is in the biz of doing Dead covers.

Cannon's Jug Stompers - Viola Lee Blues

^This one is a must-hear, tho it's not a cover!

Dave Alvin and the Guilty Men do a great version of Loser. His most recent relaease is all covers of California songwriters. This show also includes covers of Redneck Friend and Surfer Girl...

That has made me a Dave Rawlings fan. Gillian Welchs' voice just entrances me. I didn't know of their work together. I'll be looking for them to come my way. I would love to see and hear that live...
